Millions of devotees worldwide believe ‘Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba’ as the Divine Avatar. He is the torch-bearer of selfless service guiding humanity towards the creation of a value based society. Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba is adored globally as the pioneer of world peace, the proponent of Education in Human Values, the motivator for youth power, the embodiment of supreme wisdom for the revival of the Vedas and the epitome of the Unity of all Faiths.

Bhagawan Baba has provided exemplary guidelines and contributions in the fields of Education, medicine, drinking water, Gram Seva and Spiritual awareness. Especially, He used education as a means to achieve the Divine purpose of His incarnation. Until now, no Avathar has involved Himself
in the field of education like Bhagawan Baba. He demonstrated that value based education is the true solution to many problems in the world.

“The main purpose of the previous incarnations was to punish the wicked. But in this incarnation, no retribution, but education; no destruction, but purification”, says Bhagawan Baba. In order to achieve this, He brought about a massive revolution in education which is unprecedented.

If the messages, contributions and achievements of Sri Sathya Sai Baba to the field of education and the world-wide value-based educational activities inspired by these were to be listed, they would give rise to innumerous research articles.

Contributions

There are five important contributions of Baba’ to the field of education namely,

1. The Universal messages bestowed by Him to the education field worldwide.
2. The establishment and management of exemplar educational institutions.
3. Motivation to establish hundreds of educational institutes around the world.
4. The driving force for informal value-based teaching such as Bal Vikas and E.H.V.
5. The concept of Educare that systematically delivers spiritual education.

During the inauguration of His first Educational institution at Ananthpur in 1968, Baba said in His Divine Discourse, “Educational field is like a bank that provides good citizens to the society. Providing good citizens to the society is the responsibility of the bank. If it fails to do so, then the bank goes
bankrupt. If the bank called education system turns bankrupt, it is a national tragedy.” If this bank is to be safeguarded from bankruptcy, it is possible only through Education in Human Values, the concept given by Swami.

What is education? What is the meaning and the purpose of education? What actually is to be taught in education? What is Education in Human Values? How to give it to children of all levels? How should the educational institutions be operated? What are the roles of teachers, students and parents? How to coordinate spiritual education with today’s modern education? Baba has mentioned such matters in His discourse. He has also penned an invaluable work Himself, called the ‘Vidya Vahini’ in His Vahini series.

Divine Teachings

Bhagawan has propogated many such universal and timeless messages. He laid the concept of holistic education to enrich our students physically, mentally, intellectually, emotionally, morally and spiritually through school education.

Swami advocated a holistic education that combines both basic education and modern education from Kindergarten (KG) to Post Graduate (PG) level. Instead of just speaking about them, He Himself set up model educational institutes at Brindavan, Puttaparthi, Anantapur and Bangalore. These institutions are functioning as exemplars for the world by providing free education from KG to PG.

He founded not only schools and colleges but also a Deemed University. Through His educational institutions, He set an ideal not only for schools and colleges, but also how the universities should operate. That is why the NAAC committee has openly commended in its report that Sri Sathya Sai Deemed University is the model for all the universities in the country. All these institutions are being managed by the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust in an
excellent manner.

This system of education blessed by Sri Sathya Sai Baba is called Ideals of Sri Sathya Sai Education. Jnanpeeth Awardee litterateur Dr. V.K Gokak has written a book on this and introduced the ideals of Sri Sathya Sai to the world.

All these messages are the beacons to the education sector of the world. In this light, hundreds of Sri Sathya Sai schools were opened not only in India but also in many parts of the world with the blessings of Bhagawan Baba. Baba’s guideline is that every Sathya Sai school should function as an exemplary lighthouse.

Sri Sathya Sai Education Trust, Karnataka (SSSETK)

We can say with pride that Karnataka is in the forefront among the states with a large number of Sathya Sai schools. In many districts, Baba’s devotees are fostering Sri Sathya Sai schools in an excellent manner, a sign of their devotion and sacrifice. By the grace of Bhagawan Baba, under the guidance of Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, this Sathya Sai Education Trust, Karnataka SSETK came into being as a subsidiary of Sri Sathya Sai Trust, Karnataka.

Objective

1. To strengthen Sri Sathya Sai School Education System throughout the State in terms of administration.
2. To streamline Sri Sathya Sai schools and colleges to perform in conformity with both the major government regulations and the Ideals of Sri Sathya Sai education.
3. To establish and maintain Sri Sathya Sai schools in Karnataka.
4. To complement the ongoing Sri Sathya Sai educational activities.
5. To organise educational trainings / workshops.
6. To support Sri Sathya Sai school education system in various ways.
7. To promote Sri Sathya Sai value based education system
